Why do you want serve in the positions you’ve selected?

I love encouraging others to learn and grow. I love to let others be vulnerable around me, to let them be themselves. RYLA is a place where you can learn more about yourself in order to lead by helping others learn more about themselves. I would love to be given the opportunity to help others be better leaders through this program. Being able to help others with things they are struggling with is something that I pride myself on being able to do. I love helping my peers overcome what they never thought that they could.

How has your experience as RYLA participante impacted you?

RYLA connected me with so many different friends that I keep in contact with today. We may live across the state, but I know that I have a shoulder to lean on whenever I need one. RYLA allowed me to grow into myself more and I hope that I encouraged others to do the same. I am more comfortable in my own skin. I now know that in order to accomplish my goals in life I can depend on others too. I don’t have to figure things out by myself all of the time. This was a huge revelation for me. I can be more vulnerable around others and as a result, I have more fulfilling, more meaningful friendships because others know they can be their true selves around me as well. I can lead others more confidently, and I am so thankful that RYLA gave me that opportunity, both for leadership and for my lifelong friends.

How do you feel you can contribute and grow RYLA?

I feel that I am very encouraging and very energetic. I have the skills to handle others’ needs, wants, and feelings very well. I am a good mediator, and because I am the same age as many of the applicants I am confident that I can lead fairly and better connect with the campers. I have the drive to help others to be the best that they can be, for themselves and for their peers. I hope to be given yet another opportunity by RYLA: to help the campers grow into all that they can be.
