Why do you want serve in the positions you’ve selected?

I want to serve as a junior counselor because being a JC at RYLA has truly been one of the most amazing and rewarding experiences of my life. Both times I was a junior counselor, I loved being able to help my campers grow more confident in themselves and become the best leaders they can be. I get the most fulfillment in life from helping other people, and being a JC has helped me achieve that in so many ways. Hearing my campers, who were shy at the beginning of the week, tell me how many friends they made at RYLA and how big of an impact the camp had on them makes me so proud. That’s the reason I keep coming back to this camp, because it’s so fulfilling to be part of an amazing staff working to impact the lives of so many incredible kids. I would prefer to be a junior counselor again at RYLA above any other position because it is how I can work most closely and directly with the campers.

How has your experience as RYLA participante impacted you?

My experience at RYLA, both as a camper and as a junior counselor, has impacted me in so many ways. When I attended RYLA as a camper, I was so guarded and didn’t talk to most of my team at the beginning of the week. RYLA helped me come out of my shell, create meaningful friendships that I still have today, and become more confident in my own skills as a leader. As a junior counselor, I’m continually impacted by my campers. Every year, they help me realize to never judge someone before you really get to know them and to strive to see the potential in everybody.

How do you feel you can contribute and grow RYLA?

I think that I can contribute to and grow RYLA in several ways. I encourage everybody that I know who is eligible to attend RYLA as a camper to go. I think that one of the easiest ways we can grow RYLA is by providing the same transformative, amazing experience that I had at RYLA for all of the campers who attend. By doing this, those campers will encourage everybody they know to attend RYLA because of how much they loved it. So, I can contribute to and grow RYLA by providing the same life-changing experience that I had at camp to my campers as a JC.
