Vision

Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.

By participating in RYLA, I am hoping to gain valuable leadership skills, personal growth, and a new group of friends! From what I’ve been told RYLA is a fun experience that will challenge me to step out of my comfort zone, develop my communication abilities, and enhance my problem-solving skills. Additionally, by connecting with other young adults, mentors, and professionals, I’m hoping to build lasting relationships and expand my friendship circle! Overall, I hope my participation in RYLA reflects my commitment to self-improvement, leadership development, and making a positive impact.

Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?

To me, the Rotary’s motto of “service above self” embodies the idea of selflessness and community spirit. It shows a commitment to putting the needs of others before your own, and always seeking ways to make a positive impact in the world. This motto encourages individuals to contribute their time, skills, and resources to better society without seeking “the angle” (personal gain).

Past and Current Experience

Have you ever volunteered before? – Yes

List any past or present volunteer experiences including dates volunteered and position responsibilities.

During high school, I have been consistently involved in many community, church, and service organizations that have allowed me to make a positive impact on those around me. I participate in FFA roadside clean-ups, twice annually, where I have the opportunity to clean up not only Mother Nature but also our lovely community! Additionally, annually I dedicate my time to volunteering to clean out our local YMCA’s children’s room, gym, track, pool, and even the cafeteria. I am a member of the church youth group, where I assisted in putting together boxes full of goodies, toys, sanitary items, and more for Operation Christmas Child. Also, once a month I run the church nursery with my family, I would like to believe that I am making a difference in these children’s lives, even if they are only a few years old. These serving experiences have allowed me to give back to my community but have also taught me the importance of compassion and empathy while creating change.

Do you currently have a job? – Yes

List up to three past or current paid job experience including dates employed and responsibilities. Start with your most recent

I have actively sought opportunities to gain valuable work experience. I’ve been mowing for a few summers, and I babysat a family of three children all summer. Last summer I started working a paid position as a lifeguard at our local pool. Lifeguarding taught me the importance of time management, customer care, and problem-solving in a busy environment. What being a lifeguard means to me is about more than blowing a whistle, getting a tan, and wearing a uniform. To perform the responsibilities of a lifeguard, you must be mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared at all times to do your job. My work experiences have shaped me into a well-rounded individual who is ready to take on new challenges and make a difference in the community.

Have you received any awards or honors? – Yes

List awards or recognition

Starting in the 7th grade and continuing throughout my academic, school, and community engagements, I have been fortunate to receive several awards and recognitions for my efforts and achievements. In the 7th grade and up until now, my sophomore year, I have been honored with the “Gold Card” award for my academic performance by having higher than a 3.8 GPA. In high school, so far I’ve received nominations for National Honor Society, RYLA, Student Council, and Class Council, although I haven’t made some of those groups yet, I’m hoping to in the near future. These awards have served as motivation for me to continue attempting to get better.

Have you participated in extracurricular activities or organizations? – Yes

Please list, in order of importance to you, any school, religious, social, athletic, hobbies or other activities or organizations which you have participated in since the 7th grade

Throughout my high school years, I have been actively involved in various activities that have deepened my academic journey and personal growth. Starting in 7th grade, I played volleyball, and basketball, and participated in track and the swim team. I also joined the school’s FFA Chapter, participating in several activities and winning the Silver Award at state in the Agriculture Demonstration my freshman year. Additionally, I have been a member of the One Acts Team since freshman year, where I honed my useful skills and public speaking ability. I also am a member of the Crossing Fellowship church, and I attend the Cornerstone Bible church for youth group on Wendsday nights. These experiences have not only shaped my character and sportsmanship but have also taught me the value of teamwork and healthy competitiveness.
