Vision

Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.

By becoming accepted into the RYLA program I hope to gain more knowledge on how to become a respected leader in my community, school, and future career. I believe that being accepted into RYLA will help me become a better leader by using group activities that require problem solving and critical thinking as a part of a team. This will benefit me by challenging my mind to achieve a common goal and by thinking outside the box to complete difficult challenges. It will also help me realize other people’s strengths and how they can be recognized in a way to successfully complete team goals.

Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?

My future goal is to enter the ROTC program, so that I can work toward leadership in the Air Force. Ultimately, I would like to become a pilot. I believe that this “service before self” motto applies to me personally for those reasons. Service before self means that I should be concerned with the welfare of others instead of and before myself. I apply this motto with the fact that my life’s goal is to put others before myself so that civilians can live in peace. I’ve observed many people, in and out of my family, uphold this oath by joining the military, volunteer fire and rescue, and being active in my community and school. In the Air Force it will be my job to put others before myself and to serve, even at the expense of my life, to protect our country and Constitution. I believe that this motto is essential to anyone who seeks leadership or respect.
