Vision
Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.
By participating in RYLA I want to further grow my leadership skills. I hope that by attending I will meet new people, be taken outside of my comfort zone, and make a difference to others during my summer. I want to develop into a well rounded, educated individual, who knows how to lead before I go off to college.
Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?
To me “service above self” is the embodiment of respect towards someone else. It shows that you care for the other person since you are sacrificing your wants and needs to put them first. “Service above self” remains common courtesy and it is something that everyone should be willing to do. (Unfortunately this is easier said than done).
Past and Current Experience
Have you ever volunteered before? – Yes
List any past or present volunteer experiences including dates volunteered and position responsibilities.
I volunteer at my church (setting up/taking down, cleaning, and even signing up to make treats). I have also volunteered multiple times to work concessions for the various activities I do at school. Furthermore, I have helped at the annual FFA trash pickup, Feed the Farmers, and Wreaths Across America. Another one of my activities in which I volunteer is at Art Club. I help paint kids’ faces (during town functions) as well as contributing my time at canvas and community.
Do you currently have a job? – Yes
List up to three past or current paid job experience including dates employed and responsibilities. Start with your most recent
Yes I do have a job. This summer I plan on working at Shirly K’s. Previously I was the library intern, and pet sat for multiple friends and family.
Shirley K’s: Last summer I worked at Shirley K’s. I was a waitress/barista. I took orders (in person and over the phone) as well as made drinks, cleaned the café/machines, and restocked. My boss was Cheryl.

Library Intern: Two years ago, during the summer, I was one of the library’s interns. I reshelved books, did maintenance (dusted, vacuumed, washed windows, pulled weeds, sweep/mop, etc…). I also helped catalog and preserve all the old photos (from Butler, the man who founded the library), as well as helped patrons find their books (checking them in and out). Additionally, I helped organize and carry out the young kid’s book clubs and activities.

Pet-sat: Pet Sitting was my first actual job. I did this as a freshman for various people at various times. My duties were different depending on who I worked for and their specific pet. However, as a whole my job responsibilities were making sure the pet was fed and watered, brushed, and taken on walks. I also cleaned up after them and made sure the house was still in good order.
Dates Worked In the Year 2021: I pet-sat for a lot of people at a lot of different times, (I do not have any of the dates)
I did dogs, cats, (and even worked with a litter of puppies)
Some of the people who hired me were Mr. Mowry, my Uncle, Phyllis, Paisleys, Cribeli’s, and a couple others.
