Why do you want serve in the positions you’ve selected?

I would like to serve as a Junior Counselor because I enjoyed being a role model for the students this past summer. The days with my group were amazing, I was able to get to know them and help them grow as leaders. I also want to be apart of the staff because I would be a positive addition to the team. This year, I will have one year of experience under my belt and I will be better able to help this upcoming summer.

How has your experience as RYLA participante impacted you?

RYLA as a camper was amazing. I met a ton of friends and grew as a person during that summer. As a JC this past summer, we encountered many situations where we had to adapt and at the same time we had to make sure the campers had the experience which they deserved. This past year especially has impacted the leadership roles I have had since then. I learned that having a supportive team is very important for running any activity/camp. I learned how to be professional when put in many different situations. I came into camp not thinking I needed those skills, but I quickly learned being able to handle any situation that is thrown at you is very crucial.

How do you feel you can contribute and grow RYLA?

I will be able to contribute my knowledge and experience to RYLA this year. I have now been on both the camper and staff sides of RYLA, so I will be able to help guide our campers in a more experienced way. I will be able to help our newer staff lead their groups and be a supportive friend for everyone at RYLA. My leadership skills will continue to grow at camp. At Creighton, I am involved in many different groups where I hold leadership positions, so I will be able to bring the new skills I learned back to RYLA next summer.
