Why do you want serve in the positions you’ve selected?

I want to be a junior counselor because I want to use the skills I learned at RYLA and apply them to lead my campers to be great leaders themselves. I feel like my experience at RYLA was so memorable because of how my junior counselor interacted with me and I want to try and make my campers’ experiences memorable also. But perhaps the most important thing for me is that I grew so much in my skills when I was a camper, and I now want to go back to grow even more and learn new skills.

How has your experience as RYLA participante impacted you?

My experience at RYLA has impacted me in many ways. Because of RYLA, I have had the ability to take up many leadership opportunities while at school. One of these opportunities that is important to me, is that I am currently an assistant coach for the Brookings youth wrestling program. Because of RYLA, I had the skills to inquire and obtain a spot as an assistant coach for the youth wrestling program. In addition to this, I am also becoming a leader in a Christian organization (CRU) on campus. I made a mistake the year I attended RYLA, and because of this, I have learned to focus on the task at hand, that being learning how to develop as an individual, and as a leader.

How do you feel you can contribute and grow RYLA?

I feel like I can contribute to RYLA because of the skills that I learned at RYLA. I feel like I can recruit those that are still on the fence to come to RYLA and explain how it will benefit them. The relationships that I developed at RYLA are still relationships that I continue to grow today. I feel like I can connect with many of the campers because of the unique experiences, opportunities, and endeavors that I have come across since my experience at RYLA. I have been on the fence about applying because I didn’t know if I would be able to impact others the way RYLA impacted me. As you can see, I have made the decision to apply, because I feel like what I have learned will guide me through this experience as a junior counselor.
