Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.
The Rotary Youth Leadership Award is an incredible opportunity from the leadership skills RYLA teaches, to the new friendships offered. By participating in Ryla, I can bring the skills back to my community and share what I learned with my peers and neighborhood. As the future co-president of my local Interact chapter, I want to practice skills to be a strong leader for the Chadron chapter. I want to make new connections and friends throughout this experience as well. With new found friendships I could reach out to them for help and advice. I want to be self-confident in my decisions and learn from Ryla overall. I would love to participate in Great Plains Ryla this summer while making life-lasting memories.
Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?
Albert Einstein once stated, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” Helping others in life even when your life is difficult is service before self. Your life may be problematic, but someone else’s life is harder. Sharing what you have with others could change a person’s life, it could be cleaning a yard or doing the dishes.This quote reminds me of my 12 and under softball team. Last June I tore a disk in my wrist playing softball. Now that I am unable to play this sport, I turned to help a younger team, as their assistant coach. Teaching the girls new plays and correcting their swing will strongly benefit them in the future. To them I am not just a coach, I am a friend to talk to and ask for help, and they help me learn when to be patient along with making me laugh occasionally. I will continue to live for these girls because I know it will be worth it.

(Softball) 12u Softball team every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm March 2023 – the rest of Softball season
– I am a volunteer assistant coach for chadron’s 12 and under travel team.

– I feed the less fortunate at Chadron’s local soup kitchen
