Vision
Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.
I hope to gain more knowledge on how to be a good, respectful, honest, and trustworthy leader everyone loves. I want to understand what it takes to be my best and see others trying just as hard so I can gain motivation and confidence to become a great leader.
Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?
It means one needs to help others and know how to sacrifice things before focusing on yourself. This doesn’t mean that self-care is bad. It means that it’s good to think of others when one needs to make a decision that can affect the whole group/team.
Past and Current Experience
Have you ever volunteered before? – Yes
List any past or present volunteer experiences including dates volunteered and position responsibilities.
I have volunteered in many church activities, including teaching and leading the younger children in activities. I also am helping teach a Brazilian Jui-Jistu children’s class, which requires me to have leadership skills for the younger and older kids I teach. I volunteered to teach classes along with other activities in my gym.
Do you currently have a job? – Yes
List up to three past or current paid job experience including dates employed and responsibilities. Start with your most recent
Last year during the summer I babysat my neighbor’s (Kemily and David) son (Liam, 1yr) for 8 hours and earned $5 an hour. This was a mon-fri job, and I believe babysitting is a perfect first job for teenagers. It requires patience, personal time set aside, scheduling and leadership, and many factors of responsibility. I had to wake up around 7 in the morning as Liam’s mother started work at 8 and Liam’s father was already out of the house. I was required to feed him breakfast and lunch, sometimes dinner. I also had to entertain him, I let him have outside time and I also spent time with him to learn words and manners. I babysat him for about a year and I loved seeing him grow and develop a creative imagination longs with the ability to talk and walk.
