Vision

Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.

I hope to gain a better understanding of how to be a good leader that isn’t necessarily bossy and rude. I want to help lead others on whatever they may need help with, and guide them in a direction of success. When leading, my goal is to have a good relationship with whomever I am helping, and teaching them as a friend.

Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?

I believe this means that I should be willing to serve and give up some things that might have value to me if it means I have the opportunity to help lead. Teaching younger kids how to put others first is a very valuable lesson that should be taught through demonstrations from older kids or adults. So, if I were given the chance to show them or help them in the slightest, I would definitely try.

Past and Current Experience

Have you ever volunteered before? – No

List any past or present volunteer experiences including dates volunteered and position responsibilities.

Do you currently have a job? – Yes

List up to three past or current paid job experience including dates employed and responsibilities. Start with your most recent

My most recent job is a customer service job at a local coffee shop. I start November of 2022 and have been thriving there ever since. I really enjoy my work environment, and when I mess up every now and then, they help me without shaming or making me feel bad. Another Job I have is a local gift store where I also work in customer service. It is a simple job where I help restock shelves and help serve people at the counter by checking them out and helping them find things they may be looking for. I started that job in July 2022 and am currently working there and the coffee shop at the same time. My first job I ever received was rouging in the corn fields. It was a summer job that I worked for two summers, one in 2019 and 2020. I would go out in the corn fields at about 5:30 and I would cut down rouge corn stalks. It was a very tedious task that took most of the morning every day except Sunday. It was a great job for me to learn more about time management, since the bus would leave if I was ever late. I never enjoyed it, but after I was done and got another job, I really appreciated the experience.

Have you received any awards or honors? – No

List awards or recognitions that you received for academic, school, or community activities beginning in the 7th grade

Have you participated in extracurricular activities or organizations? – Yes

Please list, in order of importance to you, any school, religious, social, athletic, hobbies or other activities or organizations which you have participated in since the 7th grade

I have participated in mostly theater related activities, and a few sports. In seventh grade I did volleyball, band, and softball over the summer. During eighth grade I was home schooled due to the COVID pandemic, so I didn’t participate in anything during that time. Freshman year I did volleyball another time, and participated in One Act for the first time. Second semester I rejoined the band, and was a part of the props team in our play. This year, as a sophomore, I have done marching band, concert band, one act, NAHS (National Art Honor Society), and the musical. I also took up jewelry making, so I have been practicing that and have considered starting a small business. I enjoy drawing and doodling along with taking art classes. Some other hobbies I have are roller skating, skateboarding, painting, baking, along with much more.
