Vision

Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.

Something I hope to gain from Participating in RYLA is gaining better group and leadership skills. I think that the skills I have now can be improved. I’m hoping that RYLA will provide me with the opportunity to meet new people with the same goals as me. And provide me with the skills to help myself and others in the future.

Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?

When I think about service above self I think about helping others. I think of going out and helping people in the community no matter how it might affect me.

Past and Current Experience

Have you ever volunteered before? – Yes

List any past or present volunteer experiences including dates volunteered and position responsibilities.

School activities: Track and wrestling meet, Concessions, Admissions, and Set building. 16 hours over the last three years.
For these activities, I was responsible for a lot. When I worked in concessions and Admissions I was in charge of handling people’s money and making sure that they received the correct change. For the track and wrestling meet, I was in charge of letting people know where to go and telling other volunteers what to do. Finally, for set building, I was building benches and tables using heavy power tools and supervised the younger volunteers.
Church: Singing, Alter serving, Cleaning, and Organizing. 19 hours over the last three years.
For singing and altar serving I would arrive 30 minutes to an hour early to set up and prepare for mass. With the cleaning of the church, I was able to clean what I thought was needed. And with organizing I organized sheet music for the music director.
Community: St. Mary’s festival, Groundskeeping, and Maintenance support, Bossleman Drive-In. 20 hours over the last two years.
At the St. Mary’s festival, I was in charge of multiple booths and watching kids and receiving their tickets. This also includes taking down the booths at the end of the night and putting them into storage. While helping with Groundskeeping and maintenance support, I was in charge of making sure the grounds were clean and neatly kept. I was also in charge of my crew members. At the Bossleman Drive-in, I was in charge of directing traffic so people would be able to get to where they needed to go.

Do you currently have a job? – Yes

List up to three past or current paid job experience including dates employed and responsibilities. Start with your most recent

I am currently working at the Grand Island Hy-Vee in the floral department. I have worked there since December 2021 and I am still currently working there. Some of my responsibilities working in the floral department is that I take orders in person and on the phone. This includes writing down what the customer wants and communicating with our florist to make sure that we send what they’re wanting. Because I take the orders I am also responsible for ringing them up. My job also includes cleaning and organizing the department, not only for customers but for my co-workers as well.

I also work at Covenant Cedars which is a Church based camp in Central City. I worked there in the summer of 2022 and I will work there in the summer of 2023. My role at the camp is groundskeeping. This includes: mowing weed whacking, picking up and throwing out the trash, power washing buildings, fixing up the buildings, etc.
