Vision

Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.

I hope to strengthen my leadership and communication skills so I can inspire my peers to volunteer and participate in community service. I’m striving to be the leader that can help others express their ideas so a common goal can be made as well as a path toward execution. I would also love to build more relationships with people who have the same interest!

Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?

To me, the motto “service above self” means striving to be selfless. It means acting upon motivation in order to benefit someone else rather than yourself. I believe selflessness ties into leadership because not all people have the courage to act, especially if this act is deemed strange or unnecessary in the eyes of the current society.

Past and Current Experience

Have you ever volunteered before? – Yes

List any past or present volunteer experiences including dates volunteered and position responsibilities.

Nursing Home- (2019-Present) I provide entertainment for the residents of Kimball County Manor by playing the piano, typically around Easter and Christmas. I have also participated in piano recitals at the Kimball Manor.- (Christmas 2019) I am a member of the youth choir at my church and we went caroling at nursing home facilities in Sidney.- (Easter of 2020 and Valentine’s Day of 2021) My 4-H club decided to make Easter and Valentine’s cards for the residents of the nursing homes in Sidney. As president of my club, I coordinated the activity by gathering supplies, communicating with the faculty of the nursing homes, and arranging the creation and delivery of personalized cards.- (Valentine’s Day 2023) I am a member of the Sidney Health Occupations Students of America club (HOSA). We made several goodies such as baked goods, paper tissue flowers, and Valentine’s cards to bring to the residents of the nursing homes in Sidney and individually delivered them, taking the time to visit with each resident.
Church (Year-round)- I often play the piano for services.- I help to prepare food and serve at church dinners.- I am involved with the food pantry and help organize and stock donated food/items.- I support the Helping Hands movement by packaging food that will be sent to help fight hunger.
Helping elderly members of the community (Year-round)- I try to help the elderly as much as possible by doing tasks they cannot such as putting up/taking down Christmas trees, cleaning windows, fall garden cleanups, spring cleaning, and running errands.
4-H (Fairtime)- My club made improvements to the fairgrounds by painting pipe fencing, applying clear coat sealants to bleachers, providing flowers around buildings, cleaning up fairgrounds, and building booths for the penny carnival.

Do you currently have a job? – Yes

Emerald Greenhouse- (February-August 2020-2022) With all the restrictions regarding COVID-19, I was not able to attend the camps I had scheduled for the summer so I decided to invest in a greenhouse and grow a business. I started this business as a 4-H entrepreneurship project. Throughout spring/summer, I travel to local events and sell plants/flower baskets.
Prepared house for sale- (July-August of 2022) I was hired to prepare a farmhouse for sale listing. This house was vacant for 6 years and required intense cleaning. I was given keys to the house and worked unsupervised, keeping my employer updated in regard to my progress.
Emerald Ranch- (June of 2020-Present) I perform a variety of tasks on the ranch/farm. Some examples would include checking pastures, swathing/raking hay, branding, fixing fences, and cultivating farm ground.
