Vision

Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.

By being a captain on my high school soccer team, I’m always looking for ways to improve my leadership skills. If chosen to attend RYLA camp I hope to enhance my leadership and problem solving skills to apply them in school and service to the Pierre community.
I look forward to the opportunity to develop friendships with like-minded students from various backgrounds.

Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?

From experience on multiple sports team “service above self” has been extremely vital to my team’s success as well as my own. On every team someone has to make a sacrifice to make the team better as a whole. On my soccer and wrestling teams this last year, I’ve been that person. This last high school soccer season our team didn’t have a goalkeeper; without previous experience playing goalkeeper, I stepped up to do the job. I had to work outside of practice to be the best that I could be for the team. This last wrestling season, I wrestled up a weight class to make sure that the team had all of our spots filled. Although both experiences didn’t necessarily benefit me, it benefited the team.
