Vision

Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.

I hope to build my problem-solving skills and learn ways to be a leader everyday. I also hope to learn more effective communication and gain friends along the way. I hope to take those skills and use them for positive change in my community.

Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?

To me, this means using utilitarianism to serve the community. By valuing the betterment of society more than your own personal inhibitions, you will be able to spark positive change around you. It’s all about the greater good for the greatest amount of people, which you cannot achieve with an individual mindset. Serving your school, neighborhood, community, and society is far more important and it still can be self-serving.
