Vision
Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.
Virtuous leadership is a necessity in today’s world. I hope to gain the experience to lead others in the right direction to the best of my ability, and to always be active in improving the skills necessary to do so. I’m looking to strengthen my communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, work ethic, and social skills by attending RYLA camp this summer. The chance to meet new people with different perspectives would also be beneficial, as considering and applying viewpoints that don’t always align with my own is a valuable skill I would like to improve . I have a strong desire to learn about how I can aid the development and improvement of my school, community, state, and nation. The first step to improvement is education. RYLA can provide me and countless other teens with the education needed to make a change.
Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?
I strongly agree with this motto. My community has been an excellent example of “service above self,” and I believe that at the base of a flourishing community, there’s selflessness. Serving others builds relationships, character, and a strong set of morals. Seeing the value in others makes the world a better place: even just one act, gesture, or service can have a huge impact, not just locally, but worldwide! This is why community service and volunteering are so important to me. We should lead by example and all encourage each other to do good for our communities and others!
