Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.

I would definitely want to grow as a person through learning how to be a leader and not a follower. With this it would mean to develop myself as a person to be able to take charge and lead my community, be able to demonstrate what it means to be a leader. I have struggles with social anxiety but throughout High School I have been able to grow out of it and this opportunity would help me a lot to achieve stepping out of my comfort zone. Socializing is very beneficial and important, building relationships with other people in this camp would help me form friendships I would’ve been scared to form a while ago. Building and being able to be confident and put myself out there will help me in the future.

Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?

This to me means to put my community first by serving them and helping out rather than revolving around myself. This emphasizes selflessness and dedication to helping others, this is like a moral to me. Helping others is what I want to do in the future, it is so important and valuable to foster community and wonderful relationships.
