Please explain what you hope to gain by participating in RYLA.

I hope to not only meet new people but to get out of my comfort zone by having to talk to new and different people and possibly learn something new by attending. I never have been much of an extrovert and I hope by attending this I will be able to open up more and see things in new and different ways.

Rotary’s motto is “service above self.” What does that mean to you?

The motto “service above self” means to me that I should be helping and serving others before myself, this could mean just helping out around the house or asking people in the real world that may or may not need help with doing something before focusing more on myself. I know NHS members are required to accumulate 40 hours of community service per year. As an individual hoping to get into NHS, I look forward to the opportunities that the program will provide in regards to volunteering.

-I helped with the concessions stand that supported the Weekend Backpack Program at school.
-Additionally, this summer I hope to organize a STEAM Day/Week available for elementary students as part of the STEAM Club I helped create at the JH/HS level.
